Balancing That Hormonal Fire!

Hormones may not be something we think about when we consider doing our marriage work, but it’s an essential topic to think about when it comes to shifting moods throughout the month.

Whether you menstruate or not, or whether you have difficult or easy ones that you don’t even notice, it’s absolutely essential for you to track with your spouse what’s happening inside your body.

Here are some questions for you to be asking your spouse and talking to them about this week.

1. Try to find a rhythm in your monthly or weekly energy. For me, I have a much bigger earlier part of the week, as do most people in the American culture. By Wednesday we try to have a family night where we have something very chill going on.

I am currently looking at the book Melody and I bought this weekend and wondering if Wednesday would be a good day in the evening to dip into it a bit. However, I would guess that Wes will be looking to find out if Wednesday is a good day for intimacy. What’s going on with you each weekday and generally speaking, on a more monthly rhythm?

How can YOU balance marriage goals and personal goals for rest even as you goal-get?

2. What are the times of the month (or day) that you get particularly cranky? Let your spouse know boundaries around what kinds of triggers you may be facing?

3. What are the best times of the month for planning fun time, date nights, budgets, and important convos? Does your spouse know? Do you know? Talk it out!

4. Ask yourself how you will track these moments. What app do you have to keep track or do you do better with a paper calendar? Don’t forget to download Evie’s tracker also from this week’s episode!

5. Keep track of our extra pods and your glow guides and deep dive guides to make sure you and your spouse can truly find one another amidst all of the challenges in every possible way, too - but take a deep breath, and do just one of these things to get the ball rolling, and know that these previous Tuesday Fires are right here for you if you ever need to look back!
