Getting Your Defenses Way Down!

As much as defense mechanisms are in place for good reason, let’s admit we overuse them sometimes!

Here’s a reminder that Scott gave us yesterday on what each type does in terms of defense strategies, and then we’ll link it to your marriage or relationship. Please read about them here if you need a deeper dive!

As you navigate your defenses (and I hope you do because that’s truly fire! 🔥).

  1. Remember your goals can’t be met if you don’t do your work - this is your work to do and then YOU will be better.

  2. Identify these defenses are in place for a reason and give yourself grace.

  3. Give yourself self-soothing techniques that are lovely so you aren’t as likely to turn down the worst paths!

  4. Take time filling up yourself on a biopsychospiritual level - this is big, look at it from all angles)

  5. Understand your spouse has their own defenses and gently offer them ideas from a place of compassion and curiosity also, remember to make positive internal attributions about them.
