The Enneagram and Moms w/Beth McCord

Hello, friend, and happy Monday,

We are off to the races again and our life has settled into the real space and time of parenting ins and outs.

What time is this or that camp? Did you study for your Spanish test? Not to be a helicopter parent, but did you also contact your school about registering? Here's your chores for today

These are the phrases that some of us, myself included, call out on the regular while trying to stay regulated ourselves, while others of you are just trying to make it with a full night of sleep and a toddler or three. Still some of you are in the throes of trying to get pregnant and dealing with the very real frustrations on that side of parenting yet.

The parenting journey, irregardless of your time stamp, is, like the grandmother in the movie Parenthood said, not a merry-go-round but a rollercoaster - long, wild, and winding, and today's podcast addresses the very real fact that it's enjoyable but also VERY dysregulating (especially if you remember Steve Martin's very relatable character in the movie or any other number of fun parents in books and media, like Mrs. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, lol).

Yes, from adoption/foster care or pregnancy woes to college and adult relationships with kids, life gets complex when you add new life to the mix. New ideals, hopes, and dreams take shape, sometimes far away from your own ideals, and you have to rally yourself time and again to make it through well…

Yes, as thrilling and joyous as it is at times, sometimes the parenting journey is downright dysregulating. This is why I too love to get tips, and today we're learning from Beth McCord (founder of Your Enneagram Coach, who has administered over 3 million Enneagram tests and trained coaches in thirty countries, as she discusses her new book out to help moms not only learn about parenting from their type, but also - and this is less discussed but every bit as important - learning from their own developmental story.

Yes, the way you were raised does affect your parenting but most parenting advisors and books don't spend much time on that.

Yet it's almost everything as to how you've learned to self-regulate as your kids poke and prod at your stress buttons. Here with us today on the brand new pod just for you, Beth takes us on that journey. The one we need. And she takes us there in her new book as well.

Are you ready to learn with me? Whether you're becoming a parent someday or you're in the throes of it ((or even in the grandparenting phase like her), come chat with us in this laid back but rich conversation right here!

You can also grab Beth's new book out tomorrow here and her bonuses are still up here just for one more day, too!!
