Get Your Spiritual Fire On!

As you think about what blocks you from getting healthy with your partner, sometimes you find that it’s an unhealthy narrative or a pattern that is otherwise not serving the relationship. In fact, that’s usually what’s happening.

However, I would also remind you that beneath the core wounds of our relationships, underneath all of the patchy spots where we have hurt and broken one another’s hearts, there is another space, one that is reserved for us spiritually.

It is in this space that we find our life’s purpose and meaning, and it is in this space that our fears and doubts can creep in.

For instance, on this week’s podcast, we heard from Jesse Eubanks. He reminded us that our Creator understands us at every level, even in our Enneagram concerns that nobody will hear us, help us, love us, or protect us.

When we truly embrace the truth of this, the empathy we feel is rich.

Our connection to God becomes more powerful and less saturated with doubt.

Here are a few questions for you to take just five minutes to answer as you reflect on God’s empathy and love for you:

What old narratives have you been telling yourself about the way God feels about you?

As you consider the fact that God actually did make you and does have the awareness of all of your struggles, what is that experience like for you?

When you stop to consider the fact that underneath the struggles you have with your spouse or family at times, there is a life purpose that goes even deeper, how does that make you feel?

What do you need to spend less time on today, or even no time on today, in light of this understanding?

If you are in a position to take a few more minutes, play a worship song or a healthy spiritual song or meditation that will help you to rest in these promises and truths. You are loved exactly as you are. You are beautiful but broken. You are healing. And you are welcome to bring your beautiful gifts to the world in whatever capacity you have to bring them today.

Let nothing stop you. Don’t let your spouse’s bad day, or their mood, or your own error in doubt, or your own critic, or especially your busyness stop you from recognizing that God sees you.

Stop and remember with gratitude that God has prepared you for everything that you’re facing today.
