The Importance of Rest in Marriage
Our rest impacts us just as much as our fitness and eating. One of the most important areas that definitely affects your relationship is how much (or little) rest you get.
They aren't linked often but the truth is, marriage and rest are SO involved in one another.
When you’re not well rested, you get sick, or minimally you’re grouchy or your mind is filled with fuzz as you’re just trying to stay awake.
These are not your finest moments, lol (mine either!)
The same can be said of missing tracking shifting hormones and neglecting the care of other rhythms in our bodies, like touch and intimacy. When these things are "off," we just don’t relate very well to one another because we ourselves aren't doing well.
As you can see, we have to look at this as we assess our relationship strength indeed.
So in addition to making sure you’re getting your health and fitness in, as well your check ups and bloodwork, make sure you’re paying attention to these biorhythms of sleep and bodily functions.
Here are a few ways to get regulated in this area of biorhythms.
Wake up at the same time each morning (and each other as much as possible)..
Eat at roughly the same times each day.
Avoid eating at unusual times including very late at night.
Exercise at the same times each day.
Get some natural sunlight exposure each day.
Soak in some sunlight early in your day to reinforce your biological cues.
Exercise during the day to make it easier to sleep at night and to reinforce your waking hours.
Avoid caffeine after 12 p.m. to make sure you can fall asleep.
Avoid artificial light from electronic devices before bed. (Turn light on phone down also).
Don’t take long naps and don’t nap too close to bedtime and try to hit the bed around or at the same time.
As you work out these points in your life, write them down.
As you shift just one practice at a time, be proud of yourself. Know also that I’m doing it with you guys and take courage in knowing together we really do make great impact on others!
So make sure you schedule in enough time to rest up for the next round. This is a moment that takes great faith but also carries great rewards.
