Healthy Body Care
You know my confession is not the typical one you would expect from a 7…
It’s not the confession that I’m a foodie in need of bodywork and less gluttony. That’s just a “duh, right?” They don’t call 7s the Epicurean for nought so I will be focusing there indeed and already am.
But a greater chapter to my growth journey, and perhaps one that links us together in our body care quest this week, whatever our type by type struggle, is all about finding your own voice and taking your own action despite what your spouse does as you begin to focus on healthy body care with me this week, yes, even though this is a marriage study.
And my confession on this quest with you is that I used to look to others to tell me what do specifically do for my own body. Yes, I totally read everything I could on fitness and health, read Self mag with the best of them, listened to well-intended experts, and of course there's a piece of that we ALL need (hence you even reading here!)
But what’s waaaayyy more important to your body care this week and onward is very personal. It’s all about which type of bodywork keeps YOU on your A-game…
Even if I get it wrong or your spouse gets it wrong or you find you're a very different person from your very well intentioned trainer!!
I want you to consider this with intention, pure and simple. I am not going to have you moving in all kinds of directions with a million different links to various workout styles and nutritional facts (I include only one down below dealing with hormones as this is a big and often understated part of my work with couples and body care)! I want you to focus in on cranking up your own body awareness before all of that.
Yes, even if you're healing or can't work out (in which case make sure to do a personal dance party to Kelly Clarkston's, Broken but Beautiful).
What foods do you know make you thrive? Which ones are like little saboteurs, taking all of your energy and stealing away your precious health?
I also want you to consider which types of working out are working for you and what you need to let go of…
It’s so important to realize that what body care is for one person may be exactly the opposite for another.
This week when Wes and I talked our body care for instance, I had to address the fact that I overdid and hurt my side with Cassie Ho's bloglates intensity this Fall. So I decided to go back to my fav thing, running at the right pace on a gentle machine. My hubby Wes had to drink water and get then get through sickness himself, just staying moving, taking walks and hydrating….
So remember, I don’t want you looking to the left or to the right for this week, nope not even to your spouse and even if they’re a total babe! 😘
I encourage you to set some goals for your body care, things you can do each and every day as we build you back up to be the best you can be. Consider using the Enneagram Glow Relationship Planner to help you set intentional goals!
I realize there are setbacks and that grace is part of it all too, no doubt. But what’s of extreme importance here is that you set your intent and really focus on putting one foot in front of the other to make it happen.
Here's a few questions to get you started!
What is your current goal? Are you wanting preventative care and toning this week, month, ongoing? Or a combo?
Are you needing cardio and fat burning a bit more?
(Underlining this one!) Do you want to track more with hormones (I soooo recommend this for spouses and using the free app for women FitrWoman is so good as you get a sense for good food tips, workout tips, and mood shifts during the four stages). Here's the app
Do you need time with an accountability partner or a coach?
Need time for right brain activity more than relaxation and creativity? Schedule it.
Do you need a deep tissue massage or acupuncture?
Love a Bootcamp with friends? Find one or begin on your own as you get started.
Want nutrition? Start with the basics you have learned about yourself over time or start now, logging and being a scientist of yourself for what foods make you thrive at various times.
It’s your game and this season of life is unique, so look at it squarely with me for a moment and set your intent! Find a fun way to let your paths intersect too, if possible. Wes and I are having a walking and eating date night lol! :)
