How Do We Find Greater Joy As a Couple: Hint: Appreciate Your Gifts Together!
You've made it past the biggest portions of your week and hopefully, you're tracking with me and still ready for some learning along the way here on this pod about finding joy in your mission together with my hubby Wes Hardin!
We share some deep-diving but quick highlights about our journey to grace (and a glow-up!) together, just for you, knowing you're out there looking for specific steps for how to do the same!
Also, (warning, sappy stuff ahead!)
As I spent most of my professional life thinking about how couples have this unique opportunity for both connection and polarity together, last night on one of my many carpool rides, my type 4 daughter put on one of our favorite soundtracks, Sutton Foster's Little Women.
Hannah's literally been listening to this epic story-in-song from the time she was a baby and we were eating it up as we went to get Melody from dance classes together, and also chatted about the ways of love as Hannah's growing up.
We were especially noting how relevant these lyrics were to the dynamic of couples who, at first glance, may feel all WRONG together, but upon further inspection, often truly bring the best out in one another, sharpening and softening one another, as we talk about on the pod here today!
Here are a few of the lyrics!!
"If I say rain, then you sun.
If I say yes, then you say no.
It seems before we start, we're done.
We even argue at hello,
If I say, share with me
This small umbrella,
I say who cares if we get wet?
We are as different as the
Morning and the night
No, we're as different as the
Winter and the spring
We always seem to fight
We disagree on everything
And yet...
You make me smile,
You make me laugh,
You make me care.
How can I explain?
Inside my heart
I feel a pain
When you're not there.
Though we are not at all alike,
You make me feel alive.
If we had that in common,
That one small thing in common,
Love could be like a small umbrella,
In the rain.
Sigh! So well said! Do you agree and love that or do we have some polarity there and you think musicals are cheesy?
If you're the latter in terms of temperament, don't worry, we don't bring this heartfelt love song to the pod but we do bring your love story to life right here!!!
