Questions from an Enneagram Skeptic, Wes Hardin, MA, Enneagram 1
When you tell people about personality types, people get it, but the MBTI and others with so many combinations of letters can feel surface-level and hard to hack across.
Now as you know, the Enneagram, a system of nine personality types, is rising up as one of the greatest personality tools ever - in many ways even surpassing Myers-Briggs at some of the largest personality typing companies in the world.
So what's this tool really about? Is it more for those of faith or of science?
We would argue it's absolutely both and we wrote a piece about it for our FAQ page here, if you don't have time for an episode today, but if you do, I think you'll love chatting with Wes Hardin (MA, Wheaton College, Theology) and I about this today right here on the show!
In addition to explaining the Enneagram symbol briefly mathematically (as you know any type 1 is good at bringing efficient clarity), Wes also talks about Newton, Kepler, Algebra, medicine, and many other places where imperfect humans have made wonderful discoveries and why we think this tool, whatever its origin, is a well-developed and yes, social science tool to both hack and deep dive with personality and especially relationship study.
Whatever your faith or skepticism background, it's worth a listen! I'm excited we finally did this episode right before the Enneagram in Marriage book hits the shelves (Don't forget to claim your pre-order freebies here at the bottom of the page if you ordered early!!)
This episode was a long time coming and I appreciate that Wes could faithfully and scientifically hack through it with us!
